Investing In Move

I see a lot of debate over just how much you need to spend with a Move "setup" on the net but what is the real cost? and what do you actually "really" need to enjoy Move and the games to there fullest? Lets find out!

Well the main problem with picking a definitive package is there are so many options and combinations to choose from so it really does depend on a few factors like, number of players, the type of games you like to play, how often you play to warrant the purchase and so on.

Lets try and break it down as to what you really need to get the most out of Move at the best possible value! bearing in mind there are so many comparison charts on the net I think a few are a bit misleading and too expensive for what you really require for general enjoyment.

Option One
You own a Playstation 3 and a Playstation Eye
So you already have a PS3 and at some point purchased a PS Eye, if this is the case then getting in to Move is going to be quite easy and relatively cheap.
Using RRP you can pick up a Move Wand for £34.99, but don't forget to shop about to save £3 or £4.
Seen as you already own a Six Axis or a Dual Shock 3 you can just use that as a Nav controller, at least until you know for sure that Move is enjoyable and that you will use it for any length of time. Also as games are subject to personal choice and difference in price I will just say + game for arguments sake, seen as you may already own some Move compatible games like Tiger Woods 11, Heavy Rain and Resident Evil 5 or because dedicated Move games range in price.

PS3 - Already Own
Move Wand - £34.99
Nav Controller - Use a PS3 pad
PS Eye - Already Own
Total cost £34.99 plus game to enjoy all move games with limited 2 player support.

Option Two
You own a Playstation 3 only
Simply put you need a PS Eye and a Wand to get started so the best option is the starter bundle, this has a RRP of £49.99, again shop about and you could save £5 or so. This option again is going to give you the full benefit for one player using a PS3 pad and limited 2 player support with the Wand providing you take it in turns.
This package also comes with some demos for you to try so you don't even have to buy a game straight away if you don't already own one that is getting a patch.

PS3 - Already Own
Move Wand + PS Eye Combo £49.99
Nav Controller - Use a PS3 pad
Total cost £49.99 plus game to enjoy all move games with limited 2 player support.

Option Three
You don't own a Playstation 3
Well the easy way is to just buy a PS3 bundle, this hasn't been announced yet for the UK but I'm sure it will be the same as the US? that bundles a Wand, PS Eye and a game for a RRP of $399.00 as to what that equates to in Sterling is anyones guess but I would think £279.00 to £300.00 as a rough estimate. The good thing about this package, at least in the US is that you get a full retail PS3 Move game.

PS3 package - £279.00 to £300.00 (Estimate)
Nothing else needed
Total cost £279.00 to £300.00 (Estimate) including game to enjoy all move games with limited 2 player support.

Option Four
The best combination for full enjoyment and multi player at a reasonable price?
Is there such a combination? in my opinion there is, I personally think that 2 Move Wands, 1 Playstation Eye and 1 Nav Controller is all you will ever need, at least for that vast majority of gaming and multi-play sessions with the family. Lets break it down?

So you have 2 Wands, that gives you dedicated two player support for Move games (one for each player), also making it easier for four player gaming, two sharing each Wand. It also gives you the option to use the two Wand setup in some games like Sports Champions and The Fight: Lights Out giving you added enjoyment in the single player experience. A Nav Controller will also add to the single player enjoyment over using a PS3 pad, for the most part when playing single player games like Resident Evil, Killzone 3 and Socom 4 the added comfort of a Nav controller is essential in my opinion.

If you need to play two player games that require Nav controllers then just use a PS3 pad for the 2nd player, this saves money and for the amount of time you will actually need this combination in the grand scheme of things it's a good compromise.

Depending on what you already own this combination of 2 Wands, 1 Playstation Eye and a Nav controller will cost anywhere between £95.00 to £110.00 plus game.
This is the option I personally feel gives you the best options at the best possible price, you can always add more later if you like, remember have a search on the net and you could get this combination starting at £86.00

Total cost £95.00 to £110.00 plus game to enjoy four player, two player dedicated gaming and the complete one player experience for ALL Move games.

Of course this is all subjective and everybody's needs will differ but this is definitely the best combination for me and probably the vast majority for serious Move players with family's, What say you?

  2. Good read... I'm with u on what package to get. Move looks like is shaping up to be a good way to play with friends when they come over. I will prob get x2 motion controls and x2 nav controls as the nav controls are cheap as chips around $30 Australian. I have already got a few games that will work with move anyway and a camera

  3. I just picked up Toy Story 3 for my Son, but I've been playing it LOL, it's actually pretty good and it should work well with move.

I'm looking forward to Start The Party with 4 players, should be a laugh.
