Kinect, Move, Wii, What's In It For Me?

Come this November all three console makers will have some form of motion control device on the market, now it's no surprise that Sony and Microsoft have finally gotten on to the motion control money train that Nintendo started four years ago but what's taken so long and will these new devices improve the experience for a traditional gamer?

When the Nintendo Wii released everybody laughed at the idea of motion controls and the aim toward the casual market, 4 years on and 70 million console sales later who's laughing now? it seams that Sony and Microsoft now want a slice of the pie, having already catered to the more traditional gamer with HD graphics, media content and online services it's time to take on the casual crowd but why use motion controls to get those sales generated by the casual market?

Another video has been released, courtesy of Dual Shockers featuring the Playstation Move in action.
Anton Mikailov from SCEA gives us and developers a glimpse of the possibility's that Move can provide, hopefully as time goes on developers will find new ways to implement the tech in to fun gaming experiences not seen before? it's certainly possible with the accuracy that Move has.

Check it out.

Investing In Move

I see a lot of debate over just how much you need to spend with a Move "setup" on the net but what is the real cost? and what do you actually "really" need to enjoy Move and the games to there fullest? Lets find out!

Well the main problem with picking a definitive package is there are so many options and combinations to choose from so it really does depend on a few factors like, number of players, the type of games you like to play, how often you play to warrant the purchase and so on.

Lets try and break it down as to what you really need to get the most out of Move at the best possible value! bearing in mind there are so many comparison charts on the net I think a few are a bit misleading and too expensive for what you really require for general enjoyment.

Option One
You own a Playstation 3 and a Playstation Eye
So you already have a PS3 and at some point purchased a PS Eye, if this is the case then getting in to Move is going to be quite easy and relatively cheap.
Using RRP you can pick up a Move Wand for £34.99, but don't forget to shop about to save £3 or £4.
Seen as you already own a Six Axis or a Dual Shock 3 you can just use that as a Nav controller, at least until you know for sure that Move is enjoyable and that you will use it for any length of time. Also as games are subject to personal choice and difference in price I will just say + game for arguments sake, seen as you may already own some Move compatible games like Tiger Woods 11, Heavy Rain and Resident Evil 5 or because dedicated Move games range in price.

PS3 - Already Own
Move Wand - £34.99
Nav Controller - Use a PS3 pad
PS Eye - Already Own
Total cost £34.99 plus game to enjoy all move games with limited 2 player support.

UK Pricing

The UK RRP of the upcoming Move when released this September is £34.99 for the Wand, £24.99 for the Nav Controller and £24.99 for the Playstation Eye. A PS Eye, Move Wand and a demo disk bundle is available for £49.99.

It's unclear as to what's actually on the demo disk but you can expect some demos to be available on the PSN soon after launch.

The good news is that with a little shopping about you can save quit a bit of cash, especially if your buying a few Move Controllers. A simple search brings up the Wand as low as £31.85, the Nav controller at £22.85 and the bundle at £46.85.

What's The Best Move Combination ?

If you need any help  deciding what combination of Move component's to purchase this coming September the US Playstation blog has a few ideas, these bundles are available in the US at launch, still no "official" list of games or if any game bundles will be coming to the EU.

According to the official blog they advise the following,

I don’t yet have a PS3
Your best option: *PlayStation 3 Sports Champion Move Bundle
How much it will cost? $399.99

have a PS3 and nothing else
Your best option: **PlayStation Move Bundle
How much it will cost? $99.99

I have a PS3 and PlayStation Eye camera
Your best option: Move Motion Controller
How much it will cost? $49.99

Best Buy Demo Video

Lets start off with a great video courtesy of Gizmo that shows just how accurate the Move is. In the below video you can see people playing Sports Champions and Start The Party.

As you can see in Start The Party the PS Eye transmits a video of the player on screen and integrates that with some fun mini games. The interesting part, you will see the game draws objects over the Move Wand like a tennis racket and a sword.

No matter how fast the players move the wand the objects always move at the same pace and never loose the position on the screen, even the paint brush that they use wiggles as you move your wrist, pretty cool.
