Microsoft has the Kinnect, Nintendo has the Wii and now Sony has the Move. This site is geared towards the Playstation Move, what it offers to the consumer and the fun that can be had with motion controlled games on the PS3.
With the idea of motion controls comes an idea that most games or activities are only aimed at the "casual" gamer or in other words people that only like to play quick and easy games with little depth but perhaps a lot of fun! Sony hopes to change this by catering to a wider audience with a variety of games to suit all tastes, coupled with unrivaled accuracy and first party support the Playsation Move can make even the most "hardcore" of gamer interested in the concept with games like Killzone 3 and Socom 4 supporting the product.
There are plenty of 3rd party software developers integrating Move in to their games and designing new exclusive content to fully make use of the tech, you can bet there WILL be plenty of games to suit all tastes.
So what is it? what do I need? and what options are available? Well there are three main components to the control system, the Move Wand, the Navigation Controller and the Playstation Eye.
The system works with a combination of sensors and the PS Eye that tracks the glowing orb on the end of the Wand, this makes it incredibly accurate. The Navigation Controller acts as a second control method with a D pad and analogue stick similar to the regular Dual Shock 3 your accustomed to, giving you more options and buttons to control your games.
A complete Move set up would require the following,
2 Move Wands
1 Navigation Controller
1 Playstation Eye
BUT, the above components aren't a necessity to enjoy Move. The only two components that are required for the vast majority of games are a Move Wand and the Playstation Eye. So why do I need 2 Wands and a Navigation Controller? Simply put you don't "need" them to play most games but they do add to the enjoyment.
Some exclusive Move games have options that enhance the game play if you use two Move Wands such as Sports Champions but they work just fine with one. A minority of games may require two Move Wands like The Fight: Lights Out to fully appreciate the game play.
What about the Navigation Controller? well that maybe required for certain games like Socom 4 and Killzone 3, typically first person shooters or traditional games may require this control method, kind of like how you would play some Wii games. The good thing about the optional Nav Controller is that it can be supplemented with the Dual Shock 3 controller so you don't need to purchase this device as a regular pad will work just fine, paired with a Move Wand.
Obviously the Nav Controller is a lot more comfortable to use that the left side of a two handed pad but at least you have the option.
The good thing about Move is the wide variety of options available and the different ways to play Move games, you can start off with the basic Move Controller and the Playstation Eye and then add bits as you go, like a second Move Wand for yourself or additional players and a Nav Controller for added game compatibility, but just remember that you DON'T have to buy these extras to enjoy Move, they just add to the experience.
Coupled with stunning HD graphics and sound, new and exclusive game design and innovations from publishers as well as first party support (unmatched in the industry) from Sony as well as a robust free online gaming community you can be sure there's a lot of fun to be had from the Playsation Move.
From top to bottom,
